Sanskrit Manuscripts

This is a manuscript of Ratnaśekhara's Laghukṣetrasamāsa, a classic on Jain cosmology composed in Prakrit in the 14th century, here comprising 263 stanzas. The Cambridge manuscript was copied in V.S. 1637 in the Jaisalmer fortress, in Rajasthan, by the monk Harṣasiṃgha, the pupil of Harṣakulagaṇi. Although it is not devoid of mistakes, it is finely written and decorated, provided with a remarkably large number of charts and diagrams giving numbers or measurements of geographical components. A few illustrations are more like miniatures.
