Writing Variation much harder than Climbing plants. Encloses request to Hooker to propose, or suggest on his behalf, that the Ray Society publish a translation of C. F. von Gärtner's Versuche und Beobachtungen über die Bastarderzeugung im Pflanzenreich (1849).
