Western Medieval Manuscripts : Book of Hours

Western Medieval Manuscripts

This manuscript is an early example of a Book of Hours produced in Bruges for the English market. The Calendar lists Sts Donatian, Judoc, Basil and Eligius and the Litany includes 'S. Gheertrudis'. A London or Essex provenance is suggested by the presence of a memoria for St Ethelburga, which was added in the early 15th century (f. 16v). The miniatures were painted by a single artist, known to modern scholarship as the Master of the Beaufort Saints.
