Lewis-Gibson : Letter

Isaac

Lewis-Gibson

Letter asking for charity from Isaac to the Gaʾon Sar Šalom ha-Levi b. Moses (active 1171-1195 CE) and his deputy Solomon. The writer explains that he is not a native of the city (presumably Fusṭāṭ) and left his wife and children behind ‘in great distress, suffering under the rule of the Christians’ (ערלים). Verso contains three lines of text, probably the address of the note (it mentions Sar Šalom), crossed out.
