Tennyson : Notebook 'XVI'

Tennyson, Alfred Tennyson, Baron, 1809-1892

Tennyson

Tennyson signed and dated this small brown-sheep octavo notebook, 'A Tennyson Louth Jan. 10 — 1828'. It is likely that Tennyson had this notebook with him during his first year at Trinity. The poems which are copied in it are early, with the exception of a fragment of Maud on folio 37v. Most of the drafts are clear copy and free of correction, and there are several unidentified fragments of verse and some stubs which show traces of writing. In all, 58 leaves have been torn or cut from the notebook.
