Viśvakarman

Sanskrit Manuscripts

The Viśvakarmaprakāsa is an architectural treatise attributed to Viśvakarman, the creator deity who is said to have been the first teacher of all craftsmen, as mentioned in the Ṛgveda. The text is divided into thirteen chapters on different aspects of construction, and covers houses (chapter 4), temples (chapter 6), and forts (chapter 11). The manuscript is complete and the colophon notes the name of the scribe (Sāṃgatarāma), the month in which it was completed (Pauṣa) and the city where it was produced (Kāśī, i.e., Vārāṇasī).
