Royal Commonwealth Society : Panorama of Simla

Royal Commonwealth Society

The panorama is approximately 3810 x 534 mm. in size. An accompanying note indicates that it was painted from sketches in Rugby during the 1860s. As the panorama includes Christ Church, completed in 1854, the sketches may have dated from after the death of Lady Tennant's husband.

Elizabeth Louisa Tennant (1803-1882) was the wife of Brigadier General Sir James Tennant K.C.B. (1789-1854) of the Bengal Artillery. She remained in India until 1857, and was living in Rugby in the 1860s.
