Cairo Genizah : Letter

Cairo Genizah

Letter sent from Alexandria to the Nagid (probably Abraham Maimonides), from the beginning of the 13th century, regarding a dispute between a local dayyan and a visiting Iraqi preacher. The local judge had obtrusively got up and left in the middle of a sermon being delivered by the visiting preacher, as he disliked the biblical interpretation given by the visitor. The Alexandrians are writing in support of the visitor, and complaining about the local dayyan’s behaviour.
