Cairo Genizah : Legal document

Cairo Genizah

Recto: deed of indemnity, in which a grandson confirms that he has received from his grandmother the estate of his father. He has removed the mortgage that was imposed on the grandmother’s house as collateral for the estate, and, having acquired a quarter of the house, declares that he has no claim on the other three-quarters. The grandmother is Sitt al-Riḍā bat Saʿadya (known as Ibn al-K[...]), but the grandson is simply referred to as ʿAmram b. ‘so-and-so’. This is probably a formula, as there is constant use of פלוני; perhaps an exemplar text, as it is extremely well written. Verso: part of a deed, dated Adar II, 15[..] (= 12[..] CE), in Fusṭāṭ, involving Nathaniel b. [...], Solomon b. [...] and Abī l-Munajjā.
