Cairo Genizah : Calendrical

Cairo Genizah

The outer bifolium of a calendar booklet that originally covered the 19-year cycle 254 (= 1048-1049 to 1066-1067 CE). Calendar information survives for years 1360 of the Seleucid Era (= 1048-1049 CE) and 1377–1378 of the Seleucid Era (= 1065-1066 to 1066-1067 CE). The years are dated according to the Seleucid Era, the Era of the Destruction of the Second Temple and the Era of Creation. The calendar includes data on whether a year is plain or intercalated, on the length of the variable months Marḥešvan and Kislev, on the molad of each month and on the day of the week of beginnings of months, Passover and Purim. 19-year cycles in the fragment are counted in the Babylonian way, beginning from what we normally think of as the second year of the cycle.
