Cairo Genizah : Calendrical

Cairo Genizah

Calendar reckoning for years 9-14 of the 19-year cycle 256, 4854–4859 of the Era of Creation (= 1093-1094 to 1098-1099 CE). The heading for each year says “date and molad of year so-and-so” (תאריך ומולד). Years are dated according to the Era of Creation, the Seleucid Era and the Era of the Destruction of the Second Temple, as well as the year’s position in the 19-year cycle of intercalation, the 28-year cycle of tequfot and the Sabbatical cycle. For each year, the calendar gives molad Tišri, specifies whether the year is plain or intercalated and gives the length of the variable months Marḥešvan and Kislev. It also gives the day of the week of the beginnings of the months, and the day of the week and month for festivals and fasts, and the day and time of the four tequfot. For many tequfot their date in the Coptic calendar is also given. P2v and P3r have notes in Arabic script.
