Recto: letter from Solomon b. Judah to the head of the Babylonian community in Egypt, Sahlān b. Abraham, thanking him for forwarding a donation of 10 dinars destined for the poor in Jerusalem, and justifying his unwillingness to borrow a midrash on the Song of Songs (Midrash Ḥazita) from the ‘Third’ and copy bits out for Sahlān. The donation was from the late Abraham b. Naḥum the Toledan, and passed through various hands before reaching Solomon, including Mevoraḵ b. David, Ḥesed b. Yašar, and Faḍl b. Daniel. Sahlān had ordered that one dinar of it should go to the cantor ʿEli ha-Kohen. The letter is in Solomon’s own hand. Verso: address in Arabic. 11th century.
