Abū l-ʿAlā b. Abū l-Faḍl

Cairo Genizah

Petition or letter or request from a silk-weaver to the Nagid (Samuel b. Ḥananya), opening with biblical quotations (Psalms 119:1; 112:1). He wants to leave his employment, but owes money to his employer. He asks for the right to repay his wage advance in instalments. It is mention that his co-workers include Muslims and a Jewish renegade. In the upper left corner is the name Abū l-ʿAlā b. Abū l-Faḍl, presumably the petitioner.
