<p style='text-align: justify;'>Photographs of scientific activities and education in the Border Region (Shan Gan Ning bian qu 陝甘寧邊區), Yenan (Yan'an) 延安市, Shensi (Shaanxi) province 陝西省. They come from an official Communist Party source, passed on to Dr. Needham by the senior Communist Party member Lin Zuhan 林祖函 (Lin Boqu 林伯渠, 1886-1960), who Needham met in Chongqing in July 1944. It is also possible that some came from Israel Epstein (1915-2005), who published his article 'Scientific Research and Education in the Border Region' in the China Aid Council Bulletin in January 1945.</p><p style='text-align: justify;'>Further information and resources are available about Needham's time in China from 1943-1946 as Director of the Sino-British Science Cooperation Office <a target='_blank' class='externalLink' href='http://www.nri.cam.ac.uk/JN_wartime.htm'>here</a>.</p>
