Christian Works

This book is a fascinating example of the kind of text that might be used by ordinary people to gain access to the stories of the Bible. In this case, Old Testament stories are retold in a simplified way, using running headers and numerous illustrations, to make the work accessible to those with little or no literacy. The book has a high level of visual appeal, as well as being a rare work: there are only eight extant copies remaining in Italy.

Dr Abigail Brundin

This item is part of the Madonnas & Miracles exhibition at the Fitzwilliam Museum, 7th March-4th June 2017
