In a \u2018trumpet séance\u2019 a spirit trumpet, such as this one, is placed on a table. The medium and those attending the séance take their seats. Once all light is extinguished the trumpet, made visible by luminous rings placed around it, proceeds to rise from the table and float around the room emitting \u2018spirit voices\u2019 and, if occasion demands, exuding ectoplasm. Spirit trumpets could be made of metal, but this example, \u2018The \u201cTwo Worlds\u201d \u201cideal\u201d luminous trumpet for the development of \u201cvoice phenomena\u201d and mediumship\u2019, is made of cardboard. It is part of the archive of the Society for Psychical Research held on deposit at the Library. It was manufactured in the 1920s by The Two Worlds Publishing Co.
