Sanskrit Manuscripts : Keśavīśikṣā

Keśava Daivajña

Sanskrit Manuscripts

The Keśavīśikṣā is a śikṣā ("Teaching [on Pronunciation]") belonging to the Mādhyandinīya school of the White Yajurveda. It is included in the field of knowledge known as vedalakṣaṇa. Parameswara Aithal (1991: 266) attributes it to Keśavarāma Daivajña, son of Daivajña Gokulacandra and adds: "The work is in the form of a gloss on nine Sūtra-s called Paribhāṣāṅka-sūtra also known as the Mādhyandinīya-veda-paribhāṣāṅka-sūtra. There are six Kārikā-s as a summary at the end of the commentary." This manuscript has been written by the same scribe who wrote the Lomaśīśikṣā (Add.1709), written in 1877, and the Laghvamoghanandinīśikṣā (Add.1711). These three manuscripts were most probably produced as a single collection, and they share many common features: paper and layout are identical, and at the beginning of the present manuscript a catch number (18) is written, which is found also on the last folio of manuscript Add.1709 and on the verso of manuscript Add.1711 (which consists of a single folio).
