Western Medieval Manuscripts : Greek-Latin lexicon
Western Medieval Manuscripts

This fragment consists of a bifolio reconstructed from parts reused in the binding of a 15th-century manuscript produced in Germany. The manuscript to which the fragment originally belonged was copied in the 10th or 11th century, probably also in Germany. One folio contains a Greek-Latin lexicon, in which the Greek words are written in Latin script, and remains intact apart from the loss of its outer edge. The other contains a brief life of the poet Virgil and fragments of commentaries on his works, and was cut into strips for its reuse in the binding. The bifolio has been reassembled under glass.

Dr Christopher Wright
