Cairo Genizah : Legal document

Cairo Genizah

Partial bifolium from a legal notebook of the Fusṭāṭ Bet Din, containing two legal documents. The first deed, which is only dated to Nisan, records a financial claim by Abū Surūr b. Nathan against Abū ʿImrān and Moses b. Moses. The scribe was Abraham b. Šemaʿya the Ḥaver, and it is witnessed by Isaac b. Samuel and Elijah ha-Kohen b. Yaḥyā (יחיי). The second deed is dated Thursday 10th of Sivan 1410 Sel. (= June 1099 CE), and records a financial agreement between Sason b. Nathan and Abū ʿAlī Yefet b. Sahlān al-Arjawānī, concerning also the latter's partner Abū l-Ḥusayn al-Arjawānī (they are both dealers in purple dye). Written by Hillel b. ʿEli, and witnessed by Isaac b. Samuel and Elijah ha-Kohen b. Yaḥyā (יחיי). Only a stub of a second leaf remains, with some Judaeo-Arabic text from a third deed visible on one side.
