<p style='text-align: justify;'><p>Transoxiana, possibly Bukhara, but influenced by Herat painting of the late 16th century. Probably ca. 1600. Illuminated heading, f. 3v, and double illuminated border opening, 3v-4r. The manuscript contains 40 miniatures, by several hands.</p><p>The association with Samarqand is owed to Karin Ruehrdanz, 'The Samarqand Shahnamas in the context of dynastic change', Shahnama Studies II, esp. pp. 221-224.</p><p>Handlist and several images kindly supplied by Ursula Sims-Williams.</p></p>
