St Catharine's College : Bible

St Catharine's College

<p style='text-align: justify;'>An English thirteenth-century bible in the typical style, with extensive marginalia throughout in hands ranging from the thirteenth through fifteenth centuries. The codex has two noteworthy characteristics: first, the Vulgate text of the Old Testament contains not only the usual books of Ezra and Nehemiah, but also the less common apocryphal 4 Esdras (also known as Esdras 2/4 and 5). Secondly, the copy of the Interpretationes nominum hebraicorum following the Vulgate text appears to have been incomplete, and was finished at some later date (possibly in the 15th century) by a scribe who is scrupulously attempting to imitate the thirteenth-century hand of the original text. </p>
