<p style='text-align: justify;'><p>Here, a female figure called the xouna (witch) animates the anthropomorphic plants around her. She was thought to protect the user from evil spirits. The rooster, a hallmark of Skyros textiles and a symbol of Christ's resurrection, stands guard. The leaf-shaped lattice may have been brought to the island of Skyros from the Cyclades, perhaps through intermarriage, and was incorporated into the local repertoire of patterns.</p></p>
