David Jones : Letter from David Jones to Jim Ede: David Jones impressed with Mrs Mildred Ede's understanding of 'Vexilla Regis'

Jones, David, 1895-1974

David Jones

David Jones is glad that the 'Vexilla Regis' has gone to Mrs Mildred Ede. He is impressed with her understanding of it. This painting is special for him because of the circumstances in which it was painted, during one of his periods of illness. He put a high price on it because he was not sure he wanted to sell it. He is very pleased that Mrs Ede will leave it to Jim Ede. David Jones is now painting flowers. Writes of Helen Sutherland and how sad it is that she 'suffers tortures, and so often expresses the opposite of what she means', though she is doing less at present and is happier than previously, if markedly aged. From Northwick Lodge, Harrow on the Hill.
