Jones, David, 1895-1974

David Jones

David Jones misses Rene Hague and Harman Grisewood who have moved away: Jones had known Hague since 1924, meeting him then with Eric Gill at Capel y Ffin; Grisewood and Hague had been at Ampleforth school together. David Jones has written a long foreword to a limited edition of the 'Ancient Mariner' including his 1929 engravings. Health bad and taking a lot of medication. Admiration of Pope John XXIII, who died on 3 June 1964 ' the kind of bloke you get only once in 300 years. Visited by Stravinsky; and mentions that he had met dancers from the Russian ballet at the Edes house in Hampstead in the 1920s. From Northwick Lodge, Harrow-on-the-Hill.
