Lewis-Gibson : Liturgy

Lewis-Gibson

Piyyuṭim for Purim. (1) Strophes א to ח of an alphabetic acrostic poem, where each successive stanza begins with the next letter of the alphabet. The piyyuṭ sequentially lists the many enemies of Israel from the Bible. The refrain consists of (at least) the first verse of Psalm 3 (יי מה רבו צרי רבים קמים עלי) followed by: והמן עוד בא: לאבדי בהתיעצו: ונתלה על עצו: כן יאבדו כל אויב[י] יי. A final stanza after the alphabetic acrostic contains the acrostic פינחשׂ (sic.) The rest of the poem is preserved in L-G Lit. 2.33.
