<p style='text-align: justify;'>This letter belongs to a collection of letters from Joseph Needham to Dorothy Needham while he was a member of the International Commission on Bacteriological Warfare in China and Korea in 1952. Written from the Government Guesthouse, Shenyang (Mukden), Manchuria, it describes life in the town, a meeting with CY [Ch’iu Ch’iung-yun, Qiu Qiongyun 邱瓊雲] and her role as a member of the People’s Representative Council of 30 at Dairen city and changes in the ‘new China’. Needham also describes a large department store (the ‘Hundred Goods Store’) in Mukden and information on prices to be sent to Joan Robinson</p>
