Sanskrit Manuscripts : Padayojanā

Bhavadāsa, Bhavadāsa

Sanskrit Manuscripts

A modern Grantha manuscript containing Bhavadāsa’s commentary on the 11th skandha of the Bhāgavata Purāṇa. In the final rubric it is stated that Bhavadāsa’s work was composed at the request of queen Uttarāṣāḍhā, who was the sister of the mānavikrama (zamorin of Calicut/Kazhikode) Vīrarāya. It is also said that Bhavadāsa’s work is an enhancement of the reknowned Bhāvārthadīpikā commentary by Śrīdhara, through the addition of the padayojana (same as vākyayojana?); but cf. NCC (Vol. 16, p. 282), where Padayojanā is understood as the title of Bhavadāsa’s commentary.
