Royal Commonwealth Society : Ivory chopsticks and knife
Royal Commonwealth Society

A pair of ivory chopsticks and a knife in an ornate bamboo and ivory carrying case with decorative brass detail, designed with a loop to hook onto a belt or bag. The metal knife has a bamboo handle which matches the carrying case. Ivory chopsticks were luxury items, prone to cracking and discolouring, so not generally used on a daily basis, other than by the wealthy. The provenance of this set is unknown, but it probably originates from China or Southeast Asia and dates from the late 19th century.
