Simeon Albert Shaw (1856-1944) was a farmer of Hampton, New Hampshire, who served as the town’s first public librarian from 1881 to 1931. He developed a keen interest in natural history, particularly in ornithology and entomology. Shaw amassed a considerable collection of insect specimens which he donated to the University of New Hampshire. He wrote and illustrated this charming manuscript book about Jamaican ant species. It includes two imaginative stories, perhaps intended for children, to explain the behaviour of ants.

See Janus record here
