Sandbach Tinne : From George Rainy, London, to Charles S. Parker, Liverpool , 1838-03-14

Rainy, George

Sandbach Tinne

<p style='text-align: justify;'><p>'Report 4'. Discusses the bill to amend the Act for the Abolition of Slavery: a deputation will go to Lords Glenelg and Stanley. William Ewart Gladstone's feelings in favour of the planters. Hopes the omission of Dawson's and Watson's salaries from the lately received balance sheet is not a real omission. Reminds CSP that he (GR) should receive either original or copy of all letters addressed to him. Notes a letter from Peter about the flooding of Van Cooten's estate, although Peter's writing is as usual obscure. Wishes to see William Watson, but has heard he is going to visit his mother. Send additional supplies of rice to 'PW' and Tuschen de Vrienden estate. Proceedings in the House of Lords last night were 'very dull and tame': Glenelg lumped all the colonies in with Jamaica, 'tho' admitting it to be the principal delinquent'; Brougham was 'mild and oily' but 'deprecated all palliating as in the nature of the case inefficient'; the Duke of Wellington was also bitter about Jamaica.</p></p>
