Cairo Genizah : Letter

Cairo Genizah

Letter, probably to the parents of the writer, dating to the 1240s, mentioning that Christians and Jews have been ordered to wear a distinctive mark under threat of life and forfeit of property. Furthermore, Rabbi Ḥananel had disappeared (rumoured to have fled to Qūṣ or Alexandria, or possibly in hiding in Fusṭāṭ) and his son was giving public classes instead. Also mentions amber, and names such as Mufaḍḍal, Solomon, Moses (probably the writer's son), and [...] b. Mardūk.
