Cairo Genizah

<p style='text-align: justify;'>Part of a letter, probably from the leaders of the Jewish community in Alexandria to Ephraim b. Šemarya in Fusṭāṭ, describing the ransoming and generous treatment of two Jewish captives by Nathaniel ha-Kohen, and the special prayers recited in honour of both Nathaniel and David ha-Levi b. Isaac, on every Sabbath on account of their past generosity. The letter also begins to narrate the tale of a ship belonging to the Muslim pirate Jabārah ibn Muḵtār, that set sail from Anṭalya (western Turkey) heading west, but called in at Ramadah (Tunisia) with ten Jewish captives, whose money had been stolen and who needed to be ransomed (11th century). </p>
