Part of a letter, describing negotiations between the Muslim pirates Yabqi ibn Abī Razīn, Muḵtār and Muḵtār’s son Jabārah, and Nathan ha-Kohen, perhaps on behalf of the Jewish community of Damietta, for the release of the pirates’ captives, in particular an unmarried girl. The pirates are demanding 250 dinars. The letter is probably an appeal to the Jewish community in Fusṭāṭ for funds to secure the girl’s release. With an allusion to PT Giṭṭin 4:6 in reference to not paying exorbitant ransoms.
