<p style='text-align: justify;'>Letter from Safed, Palestine, written by a man from Cairo, who had traveled there, mainly, it seems, to settle a family affair. The writer is deeply depressed, has suffered financial misfortune, and now wrestles with the question of suicide. He writes that were it not for his belief in eternal life (using the Islamic term yaqīn ‘certainty’) he would commit suicide.</p>
