Cairo Genizah : Calendrical

Cairo Genizah

Calendar reckoning for years 1438–1441 SE (= 1126-1127 to 1129-1130 CE) in the hand of Ḥalfon b. Manasseh. The years are dated according to the Era of Creation, the Seleucid Era and the Era of the Destruction of the Second Temple. The position of a year in the jubilee cycle, Sabbatical cycle and the 19-year cycle are also noted. For each year, the calendar specifies whether it is plain or intercalated and the length of the variable months Marḥešvan and Kislev, and gives the day of the week of beginnings of months, festivals and fasts, and the day and time of the tequfot. In the margins and between the lines, events in the Muslim calendar are noted in Arabic script, such as the beginning of Hijra years and, in a different hand, the beginning of the month Ḏū l-Ḥijja.
