Cairo Genizah : Poetry

Cairo Genizah

Four poems, the first, rhymed in -o, is poorly preserved. The second was written for Isaac b. Ḥasan al-Andalūsī (לאיש חכמה ירש), described in the poem as R. Isaac ha-Roš and extolled for his commentaries on the Bible, Talmud and Mišna. The third is given the title (at the top of verso) ‘Proverbs (אקאויל) for Joseph b. Jacob’, who appears to have been a great Talmudist especially skilled in the calendar. The name Mevoraḵ b. Zalzala is mentioned in superscription to the fourth poem, which begins in the right-hand margin on verso.
