Cairo Genizah : Letter

Cairo Genizah

Letter sent by an Algerian schoolmaster in Ṣahrajt, Egypt, to Mevoraḵ b. Abraham asking him to help his blind son. Since people do not give for Heaven’s sake but only to make a show of their charity, he tried to arrange himself a public charitable collection (pesiqa, Arabized as basiqa) in Fusṭāṭ, but was not successful in raising any money. Mentions Abū Zikrī and Abū l-Faraj.
