Cairo Genizah : Letter

Cairo Genizah

An addendum to a letter, informing a man that his son, Nissim, from Ceuta in Morocco, was arrested in Bijāya (Bougie in present-day Algeria) and his belongings were confiscated because he did not have any certificate attesting to his relationship with a woman. He had claimed his female companion was his wife, but had no papers to verify the claim. The governor has now taken Nissim and his possessions and put him into prison. 13th century.
