1820

When GM Benton made his catalogue in 1915 these arms were in the possession of James Burleigh, who lived in Burleigh House, opposite Christ Church. Alderman James Burleigh, after whom Burleigh Street and James Street were named, died 1828 and is buried at St Andrew the Less. He made his money as a carrier to London and was a fan of Thomas Hobson (1544-1631), who had also made his fortune from this route. His house, now offices, stands at 13-15 Newmarket Road. The arms with lion and dragon supports are as used by Tudor monarchs c. 1530-1534 and 1558-1603.

Cooper 1808-1886
