<p style='text-align: justify;'><p>St Andrew’s church contains a magnificent group of bench ends decorated with real and mythical beasts including lion, stag, antelope, buck, goat, wyvern, dog, griffin, dragon, eagles etc. There are also two well-dressed men in medieval dress and a priest. The priest in Relhan’s drawing may be the one photographed here, but his staff is pointing the wrong way and his head has been renewed. The benches have been movedand repaired many times, and some are modern. Relhan’s shields of arms are on grey marble floor slabs in the chancel and the organ chamber, respectively, one to Samuel son of Zakariah Burton of Sibsey (Lincs) 1712, and the other to Richard Langley 1724, Doctor of Theology and Law, son of Edward Langley of Hipperholme (Yorks). Both were pensioners of Jesus College. Samuel Burton was married to Susanna Fox of Chesterton.</p><p>RCHME 1959; Venn </p></p>
