<p style='text-align: justify;'><p>Engraving</p><p>Engraved by Jodocus Hondius for Speed</p><p>Scale c. 4 miles to 1 inch, with numerous coats of arms forming a decorative border on 3 sides and a plan of Cambridge in top left corner, with a list of colleges and churches. Rivers, major roads, villages, churches, bridges, hundreds, deer parks, topographic features, meres, causeways, indications of hills and woodland are all shown. This map was reprinted many times. John Speed (1552-1629) was one of Britain’s best known cartographers, who issued maps of all counties, published collectively as ‘The Theatre of the Empire of Great Britain’, 1611/12. The maps were made from copper plates engraved by Hondius.</p></p>
