Relhan Collection : 173 Haslingfield church. View from W

Relhan, Richard, 1782-1844

Relhan Collection

As (170). This imposing and well decorated C14 tower was restored in late C19 but the church’s appearance was faithfully retained as it was in Relhan’s time, when the W door was a main entrance. Its rather military embattled upper storey is influenced by Ely Cathedral. Stone in the polygonal pinnacles looks like a later addition and is very weathered, which may explain the need for restoration 1898-1900. Gravestones have spread around this area.

Bradley and Pevsner 2014
