Relhan Collection

Thomas Wendy (175) was succeeded by his eldest son William. William and Blanche had no children and his younger brother Francis (179) had predeceased him, so when William died in 1623 the estate passed to his nephew, Francis’s son Thomas (178). Marble and alabaster colonnettes flank effigies of Thomas in academic robes and William in armour, kneeling and facing their wives, Elizabeth and Blanche. All wear ruffs and kneel on tasselled cushions. The monument is attributed to William Wright and erected 1619, when the chancel was remodelled. Almost all colouring is now lost.

Bradley and Pevsner 2014; VCH 1973
