Relhan Collection : 177 Haslingfield church. Ten shields of arms from Wendy monuments

Relhan, Richard, 1782-1844

Relhan Collection

Ten drawings of arms on small pieces of paper with pencilled annotations, several impaling the arms of other families, but none of the annotations identifying more than T[homas] W[endy]. Ten shields would appear to fit the number on the sadly lost altar tomb of Dr Thomas Wendy (above, 174), but one at least of the arms shown there is not among these shields, three shown in 174 are identical, and 177(a), (b; labelled ‘on Mont of T.Wendy’ and additonallly includes a crest), (c) and (g) appear to be taken from the monument ,to Thomas Wendy Esq (d.1673), 178. The remainder (d), (e), (f), (h), (i) and (k) may however come from Dr Wendy’s tomb. These have now been lost.

Saunders P pers comm
