<p style='text-align: justify;'><p>Cole 1744 describes ‘<i>a very handsome monument of free stone and black marble’</i> for the daughter of Sir John and Lady Jane Hinde-Cotton (<b>256, 242</b>), who died 1707. She is shown wearing a loose gown, high-heeled shoes, kneeling on a cushion and reading a book. There is a long inscription on the tomb chest and the background panel has swags and garlands, cherubs, lanterns and a cartouche of arms. It was carved in alabaster and black marble by E Stanton. </p><p>Palmer 1932; RCHME 1968; Walker in Hicks 1997</p></p>
