Relhan Collection : 258 Madingley Hall. Park Lodge

Relhan, Richard, 1782-1844

Relhan Collection

This modest single-storey brick building with chimney and mullioned windows, otherwise very plain, stood by the roadside. The small lodge was built as part of the new park layout by Capability Brown in 1758 and features on an estate map. In 1908 it was described by its owner, Col Harding, as ‘ruined’ and, with the gates as a ‘squalid entrance’. He replaced it with the present picturesque gatehouse in 1909, designed by RD Oliver.

Munby 1988
