Labelled underneath ‘Mont of Robert Lawrence Esqr of Stow cum Quy Hall died Sept 26 1650 Aged 70.’ A wall tablet in black and white marble with a broken pediment surmounted by arms and crest of 1675 records Robert Lawrence's gift to the poor of profits from 10 acres of arable land. Relhan has not attempted to include the inscription and the arms are shown only in outline. Lawrence had been established at Quy since 1605, was buying land there from the 1610s and purchased the manor 1633. In 1635 he settled the manor on his daughter Sarah and her husband John Child, a lawyer. Their son John’s widow sold the estate to Sir Paul (James) Whichcote (272). A black ledger stone laid in the nave 1675 records Robert Lawrence, d.1650, Frances his wife, d.1645, Sarah (Childe) their daughter, d.1671, John Childe, her husband, d.1672, and John Childe, the latter's son, 1683–4.

Palmer 1932; RCHME 1972; VCH 2002
