Relhan, Richard, 1782-1844

Relhan Collection

Labelled ‘Escutcheon of Thos: [deleted and corrected underneath in a different hand to James] Martin of Stow cum Quy Hall.’ James Martin was the banker brother of Thomas Martin and they jointly acquired the Quy estate from Sir Francis Whichcote (272) when they foreclosed on his mortgage. On the N wall is a memorial to James Martin, d.1744, a white marble tablet with carved apron. The hatchment was probably removed during repairs by the Francis family.

Bingley and Cockerill 2006; VCH 2002
