Relhan Collection : 283 Sawston church. Arms and crest of Sir John Huddleston of Sawston, 1557

Relhan, Richard, 1782-1844

Relhan Collection

Labelled ‘Coat Armour of Sir John Huddleston of Sawston 1557’. The crest of a bleeding scalp held up by arms emerging from behind a helmet, appears above Huddleston’s monument in Relhan’s drawing (284). Kerrich says that the helmet had been removed many years previously, which suggests this drawing and (284) are early works by Relhan. A helmet (but no crest), is today in place.

Kerrich 1815; Teversham 1943
