<p style='text-align: justify;'><p>A black marble slab in the nave bears the inscription and arms of John Rant 1626-1696 and his wife Joan. The inscription has been copied in full below the arms that have been coloured on the basis of heraldic knowledge, though never so coloured on the slab. Cole 1744 describes ‘<i>a very handsome black marble slab’</i> with arms of Jermy’. Joan was the daughter of Edward Jermy and great-granddaughter of Edward and Margary Steward <b>(309 etc</b>). John Rant was a barrister and JP and was 2nd son of Roger Rant of Swaffham Prior. </p><p>Bell 2013; Palmer 1932; RCHME 1972 </p></p>
